What to Do During Your Downtime at an HVAC Job?

One question our boss always has for us is “What are you working on?”. We typically have an answer for this, but when we don’t we still have to try to look busy, right? While you may focus on smaller tasks or looking busy there are plenty of things to do to make you better and more efficient while you’re on the job. Today we are giving some valuable tips on how to stay busy and productive during your downtime at work.

Training

The first tip we have today is to keep up on training. Make sure you and your team brush up on things that can be considered routine so that you have them down when you’re out on the job. Working on online certifications is another great way to spend your downtime. Your staff will be better equipped to handle situations on the job with their new knowledge.

Check your tool bag

Now that you’ve added some new tools to your bag of knowledge, take some time to review your actual tool bag. Make sure that you have everything that you need on your next service call. You can also make sure your service van is ready to go. If your company keeps its larger equipment in their vans, make sure they have everything that they need. You can also check on the status of the vehicle itself. Does it need an oil change? Are the headlights and brake lights working? Small things like this will make sure that your company is always performing at its best.

Do your research

Looking at new industry trends and standards aren’t just for the people at the top of your company. This practice can not only make you better but it can also help everyone else. There could be a new piece of technology out that can help your business improve, make your everyday tasks easier, or even better satisfy your customers needs.

There may also be a new standard that your company may not be aware of or a new recommendation that can improve the work that you do on a daily basis. There is always new information circulating around at all times, especially today so there will always be something to catch up on.

We are always trying to improve what we do here at Thompson Heating & Cooling and we don’t want anyone to miss out on ways to improve.
